Cormac

Called as a Solicitor by the Law Society of Northern Ireland 1985.

Following admission to the Roll Solicitors Cormac typically started with a mixed caseload including debt and bankruptcy actions, Plaintiff litigation in both County Court and High Court for the firms’ Downpatrick office, County Court Defence work, employment and general advisory matters for a Nursing organisation. This developed to more specialised product liability litigation, clinical negligence actions combined with County Court Defence work. In 1990/1991 Cormac increasingly focused on the main stay of the firms’ workload, its Defence litigation, but nevertheless retained an interest in catastrophic injury and high value claimant cases together with some commercial litigation.

Since the formation of Campbell Fitzpatrick Solicitors Cormac’s focus is largely Insurance referred litigation and associated work. This includes RTA, EL and PL, professional negligence, fire damage recovery, fraud, subsidence, assault, trespass to the person, litigation involving complex clinical issues, catastrophic injury litigation and substantial damages recovery actions.

To complement a concentration on litigation Cormac successfully completed the Law Society of NI ADR training course in 2001 and is now accredited to the Law Society’s Panel of Mediators. This was followed by the Law Society’s Advocacy Course in 2004 with acknowledgment as an approved Advocate.

From 1996 to date Cormac has presented as a guest lecturer and occasionally as a course tutor at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Queen’s University Belfast. Cormac has also lectured for the Belfast Solicitor’s Association in 2004 and has been invited again for the Autumn of 2008. In May 2006 Cormac lectured at the request of the Law Society of NI at a half day conference chaired by Lord Justice Higgins on Practice and Procedure in High Court Litigation.

Committee appointments include the Law Society Northern Ireland Contentious Business Committee for the past fifteen years; appointee for the Law Society to the Queens’ Bench Liaison Committee from 1998 to date and Law Society appointee to the Queens’ Bench Masters’ Liaison Committee from 2001.
